Action Packed 2-Night Connect with Nature Adventure

Experience nature and adventure in Gansbaai, just 170km from Cape Town. This coastal town in the Overberg puts nature first and has the awards to prove it, winning Best Responsible Tourism Destination in the whole of Africa in 2015.

Saxon Lodge, overlooking the Harbour and the ocean, is your base as you uncover the magic of greater Gansbaai and the Walker Bay conservation area, where coastal fynbos, the endangered African black oystercatcher, Cape clawless otter and, from June to December, the magnificent Southern Right Whales, call home. This two night, three-day package includes accommodation and three incredible activities.

Your first experience is the Walker Bay 4x4 Adventure Tour, the ultimate eco-adventure that comes with driving where few others dare.  The untouched natural beauty, sand dunes, limestone cliffs, stunning rock formations and exquisite isolated beaches come alive with the stories from your driver/guide. Explore the historic Klipgat Cave, climb a sand dune for unrivalled views and scan the ocean for whales, dolphins, sharks, penguins, seals and so much more. Relax on a secluded beach for sundowners and a picnic. This conservation area is a photographer’s dream.

For the second activity, saddle up as the Pearly Beach Horse Ride takes you through the wonders of the dune forest. Diverse bird and wildlife, fynbos species and beautiful wildflowers and then - Pearly Beach. On this long untouched stretch, your horse will show you the meaning of true freedom as you canter or gallop along the edge of the ocean. Novice or nervous riders can enjoy a placid walk or more adventurous trot. If the weather is right, you can swim with the horses as they adore walking into the surf for a dip in the ocean. No riding experience is required. Your host Sarah leads the trail and has 30 years of riding experience. Her speciality is making sure every visitor has an unforgettable experience.

For your final activity, the Fat Bikes Sand Dune Trail is the ultimate ride on a narrow sandy trail through the fynbos to the dunes. Led by an experienced guide, you cycle around the dunes to a fantastic downhill section and continue on to the top of the first vertical dune face. A briefing will be given on how to ride down the dune, but those wanting a tame experience can go around to the easy slope. After the dunes, the route follows a 4x4 trail down to the beach. All levels of skills and experience are welcome.

There are plenty of great and affordable restaurants in Gansbaai and the surrounding areas. Your hosts will be happy to advise you.
