Discover the unspoiled beauty of nature with the Walker Bay 4x4 Adventure Tour. This is the ultimate eco adventure that comes with driving where few others dare to go. Your host Lloyd is a local who knows the area intimately and is passionate about the conservation of this pristine, wild, protected area. He is also a qualified guide and has endless stories, anecdotes and interesting facts that contribute to the appreciation of this exquisite area.
The tour gives you access to untouched natural beauty, from sand dunes, limestone cliffs, stunning rock formations to peaceful isolated beaches. The tour includes a walk down numerous steps followed by a scramble over rocks to reach the historic Klipgat Cave, absolutely worth the effort. Information boards tell the tales of the life of the San people who lived here over 80 000 years ago.
Back to the Landy to navigate thick sand, tight turns, exciting bouncing around black rocks and dense fynbos as you enter the heart of the Walker Bay Nature Reserve where the bay is a playground for Southern Right whales between June and November. Bryde’s and humpback whales, and various dolphin species, can be seen throughout the year. There is a stop to climb up a sand dune to see the vastness of the landscape and to scan the ocean for whales, dolphins, sharks, penguins, or seals.
Nature will not be hurried, and the pace of this tour allows time to take it all in and to relax on a secluded beach for sundowners and a picnic, and maybe even a swim. This conservation area is a photographer’s dream and there are plenty of opportunities to stop for the shot.
Di can't wait to go back and experience this again. Watch this space for an article coming soon.
