Yeoville Jewish Heritage Tour

When Yeoville was first discovered by Thomas Yeo, he marketed it to Europeans and sold the area as one that would protect them from the dusty mining that was happening around Johannesburg.

Yeoville was occupied by Jewish people and they transformed it forever, by opening doors to many other people, including Black South African’s in a time where it was illegal for people of color to mix with white people. The heritage tour gives you an insight into the synagogue and heritage buildings in the area, including schools.

"I loved revisiting Yeoville, as I lived there in the late 80’s/early 90’s when I first moved to Joburg. Yeoville is vibrant and interesting and still a first stop for migrants to Joburg - but now the residents are from all over Africa! The food, the people and the information."-TripAdvisor
